Xiaomi removed the charger from the Mi 11’s box to protect the environment. Initial sales reports show that users flocked to the version with an out-of-the-box charger that sold for the same price.
After Apple, Xiaomi also removed the charger from the box of its new flagship phone. The decision taken by the Chinese company with the idea of “protecting the environment” was reacted by most of the consumers.
Launched as the first phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, the Xiaomi Mi 11 was recently launched in China. The device, which has achieved a great success by selling 350 thousand units in five minutes, does not seem to meet the “environmental awareness” target of the company.
“If you have a charger in your house, the second is not needed”
Although Xiaomi followed Apple’s footprint, it offered a different approach to customers. The Chinese company has released the Mi 11 in two different versions. The Special Set Edition model includes a charger, while the Green Edition version does not have a power adapter.
The good news is that both versions are (for now) the same price. However, at the time of the launch, Xiaomi called on users to take an environmentally friendly approach by not buying the second charger if they already have a charger in their home.
There is little demand for the Green Edition
The first sales reports announced show that the company’s call went unanswered. Because only 20 thousand of the 350 thousand units sold in five minutes were the Green Edition version, which did not contain a charger. In other words, an overwhelming majority of users like 94 percent preferred the version that comes with a charger.
It seems that this discussion will keep the agenda very busy in 2021. Because there is information that other companies will follow the path of Apple and Xiaomi. There is a high probability that the Galaxy S21, which Samsung will introduce in mid-January, will not contain a charger.
