The U.S., the New York State Legislature, is on the agenda with an interesting bill. Although robots are not yet at the center of our lives, the New York Police Department has already started using the Boston Dynamics Digidog robot. New York City Councilman Ben Kallos, however, opposes the armed use of the robot, DigiDog. So, how did the first fuse for the armed robot law !.!.! fired?
Preparation of armed robot law for Boston Dynamics robot
He was part of Digidog, a Boston Dynamics robot, in a bomb disposal operation by the New York Police Department last month. This image, reminiscent of a sci-fi movie, horrified some people, including Ben Kallos. Kallos, a member of the New York legislature, introduced an important bill for the future.
The bill seeks to prevent the New York Police Department from arming these robots in the future. Councilman Kallos said he was not opposed to the use of robots for bomb disposal. Kallos, however, doesn’t want to see armed robot troops roaming the scathings in the future.
This bill, introduced by Kallos, does not ban auxiliary robots in line with the councillor’s sensitivities. This local ban has not yet become law in the New York Legislature. However, even the fact that the law was being debated caused theories to emerge as a danger to robots.
The use of robots in bomb disposal sparked controversy, but it turned out that police also used Digidog in a raid. However, the robot search of the house after the raid further accelerated the adoption of the bill. Other than that, armed robots haven’t come into our lives yet. However, as far as it is known, the US military is experimenting in this direction.
The most interesting analogy for Digidog, the Boston Dynamics robot, is from The Black Mirror. The Digidog robot is almost identical to the robot that appeared in Black Mirror season 4 episode 5.
Metalhead, one of the most tense episodes of Black Mirror, tells the story of the unstoppable progress of a Digidog-like robot. With this episode, the theory that robots threaten human life began to be discussed further.
The fictional video of the Boston Dynamics robot, which once spread online, also lit the first flare of these disputes. The video, which showed the robot defying orders and attacking humans, provoked a strong reaction from people at the time.
