Sony CEO Kaz Hirai resigned and retired

Sony CEO Kaz Hirai announced in February that he will resign from his post and take over as executive-president.

Then in March, the management confirmed that Hirai had retired and appointed CFO Kenichiro Yoshida to head the company. Completed Kaz Hirai’s post on PlayStation and Sony on Tuesday (June 18th). It was previously reported that he would serve as a senior consultant and would continue to provide consultancy on Sony management’s requests.

Kazou Hirai joined Sony Music in 1984 and then moved to Sony Computer Entertainment (now Sony Interactive Entertainment) in 1995. In 2012, he was promoted to CEO and President. When Kaz Hirai took office, he explained his mission: “to ensure that Sony continues to be a company that inspires the soul of customers, stimulates them emotionally and responds to their interests”. God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and many more popular productions are the product of Kaz Hirai’s vision.

A source told Variety that Hirai’s decision to step down was partly due to the deterioration of his travel programs as CEO over the last 6 years. Now Kaz Hirai plans to spend more time with his family at his home in California.
