Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 powers the flagships of 2021. But shortages in chip manufacturing have limited the hand of manufacturers such as Qualcomm. In addition, the snapdragon 888 is too costly for smartphone manufacturers, pushing Qualcomm to alternative solutions. According to the leaks, Qualcomm is working on the Snapdragon 780G, which features the Snapdragon 888 but costs less.
The Snapdragon 780G comes with Snapdragon 888 features
Qualcomm is working on a new platform, according to leaked information on Weibo, a popular forum in China. The American manufacturer aims to offer advanced connectivity features without overdoing muscle strength. The company plans to use a built-in FastConnect 6900 connection system on the new processor. Thus, features such as high-speed Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2, which are expected to be on a processor such as the Snapdragon 888, will be retained.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G, which is in development, will have a Snapdragon X53 5G modem. The maximum download speed supported by this modem is 3.3 Gbps.
There is no information about the muscle strength of the 780G on the CPU and GPU side. Rumors are that the new processor will be close to the power of snapdragon 775 / 775G. However, there is also the possibility of overclocking Qualcomm’s new processor.
Production problems at Qualcomm, Samsung and TSMC factories are having a tough time. Qualcomm, which has trouble supplying processors to its customers, suffers the same fate as many companies. But the leaker’s view is that we will see the new processor by the second quarter of 2021.
TSMC’s price increase in silicon circuit boards has led to increased costs. For this reason, flagship processors such as the Snapdragon 888 have also reached a very costly position for smartphone manufacturers. Qualcomm’s ultimate goal is to provide customers with a platform for every budget.
