Processor of Galaxy S11: Exynos 990 introduced

Samsung’s Galaxy S11 and Galaxy Note 11 will be powered by Exynos 990. Launched with Exynos Modem 5123 with 5G support, the processor will be manufactured with a 7 nm EUV fabrication process.

Improving the fabrication process increases the number of transducers in the processor. That is to say, a 7 nm processor has more transistors than a 10 nm fabricated process. With the increase in the number of transistors, high performance and energy efficiency are achieved.

Exynos 990 Characteristics

Samsung’s new high-end processor consists of two Exynos M5, two Cortex A76 and four Cortex A55 cores. In this triple processor cluster, the Exynos M5 meets the high performance needs as you can imagine.

The Exynos M5 is 20 percent faster than the Exynos M4 in the Exynos 9820. On the graphics side, the G77MP11 provides the necessary strength. Based on Valhall architecture, this new GPU is said to be 20 percent better in graphics performance and energy efficiency. The 20 percent increase in graphics performance is inadequate.

A greater improvement in graphics performance was expected from Samsung. For this reason, it seems inevitable that Snapdragon 865, developed for the flagships that Qualcomm will introduce next year, will surpass the Exynos 990.

One of the main changes that Exynos 990 brings is the transition from LPDDR4X memory to LPDDR5 memory. This allows the processor to increase the memory controller frequency from 2093 MHz to 2750 MHz.

Home to dual NPUs and DSPs, the processor’s image processing unit supports up to 108 Megapixels. If the dual camera is preferred, it is supported with 24.8 Megapixels + 24.8 Megapixels.

The mass production process for Exynos 990 will begin at the end of this year.
