Have you heard of the Rasberry Pi before? If you know what the Rasberry Pi is, you must have seen what its users can do with this single board computer. You can see very interesting works done with Rasberry Pi with a little search.
In this news, we will convey to you a very interesting work done with this single-card computer. A Reddit user named GreedyPaint connected a floppy drive to the Rasberry Pi and managed to compress the size of Shrek’s DVD version to 0.03%.
Reddit user managed to compress Sherk to a floppy disk
GreedyPaint has written a custom x265 video codec to do this compression. This particular codec compresses video at a resolution of 120 x 96 pixels at four frames per second. Of course, with this intensive compression, the size of the video is also getting smaller.
The standard has a capacity of 1.44 MB, although the size of floppy disks ranges from 800 KB to 2.8 MB. However, GreedyPaint still manages to compress enough to 7 MB of space on the floppy disk. This Reddit user compresses the 4.7 GB DVD version of Shrek down to 1.37 MB.
Rasberry Pi comes into play after this point. They connect the floppy disk drive to the Rasberry Pi to play this hyper-compressed version of Shrek. The 1.37 MB Shrek movie compressed to the floppy disk naturally begins to progress with rather poor image quality after being inserted into the floppy drive.
