About four years ago, Huawei closed its consumer business in Brazil. However, Huawei’s mobile phone business is booming again. In 2019, Huawei’s Q1 shipment grew by 50% and it surpassed Apple for the first time in terms of shipments. In order to continue the current development momentum, Huawei continues to expand foreign markets, including Brazil. This week, Huawei announced the launch of Huawei P30 Pro and Huawei P30 Lite mobile phones in Brazil, which marked Huawei’s return to the Brazilian market.

Before now, Huawei’s operation in Brazil was to supply to operators. This time, the company has established a partnership with major Brazilian retailers and it has advanced plans to produce some of Huawei’s mobile phones in Brazil. At present, Brazil is the fourth largest smartphone market in the world. According to IDC analysis, the sales of Brazilian smartphones will continue to grow in 2019, and the smartphone business will be the main growth area.

As the largest economy in Latin America, Brazil’s information and communication technology industry will achieve a 4.9% growth in 2019. Smartphone sales will grow by 18% to $24.5 billion, accounting for 38% of all Brazilian IT spending (including B2B and B2C sales) in 2019.
