Samsung introduced NVMe SSDs at CES 2020, capable of reading 6500 MB / s and utilizing PCIe 4.0 power.
We continue to convey new technological developments from the CES 2020 fair, which we participated with the support of MediaMarkt. Samsung launches the first PCIe 4.0 SSDs, called the 980 Pro. The SSD with PCIe Gen 4.0 connectivity is capable of reading speeds of up to 6.5 GB / s and consists of three different models. The details of the NAND Flash chip have not been clarified yet.
Samsung’s latest 3D NAND model, the 6th generation V-NAND, will be used for NAND flash memory. In addition, the new model has been increased to 128 layers. Not only capacity and speed of access, but also power efficiency have been improved over the previous generation of V-NAND.
In addition, when using the 980 PRO with PCIe 3.0, the power consumption is considerably reduced and runs at a lower power consumption than the 970 EVO Plus. SSDs, which can reach 6.5 GB / s read and 5.0 GB / s write speeds, will be available in three models: 250 GB, 500 GB and 1 TB. New products are expected to be available in the second quarter of this year.
