When we have to wear a face mask all the time, the iPhone facial recognition system now detects the mask and performs the unlocking mechanism through the Apple Watch.
With the pandemic, wearing masks has become a part of our lives and a significant challenge has arisen for facial recognition systems on smartphones. Although manufacturers release updates, the masked face can be difficult to detect. Users also want to cancel facial recognition systems. Apple is bringing an alternative to this.
The watchOS 7.4 update for Apple Watch watches has been in beta for some time. In the latest beta version, a new change appeared that will affect iPhone users. Now the iPhone lock can be unlocked with the Apple Watch when wearing a mask.
In the new change, if the user uses a face mask, the iPhone detects it when performing a face scan and scans whether the user is wearing an Apple Watch. It automatically unlocks, if any. For example, in areas where face masks are mandatory, such as grocery stores, the feature will be very useful. In addition to COVID-19, users will not need to enter facial recognition or passwords to unlock in business areas where masks or helmets are worn.
WatchOS 7.4 includes innovations such as the Fitness+ app’s compatibility with AirPlay. To unlock iPhone with Apple Watch, iOS 14.5 must be installed. New updates will be available to Apple devices later in the month.
