Apple will also feature Russian software on its devices such as iPhones and iPads from April 1, following an agreement with the Russian government.
With the law passed in 2019, Russia made it mandatory for Russian software to be found in imported devices. But some companies accepted Russia’s decision, while Apple objected because of company rules. However, apple has reached an agreement with the Russian government after nearly 2 years of negotiations, journalist Vedomosti reported.
As of April 1, 2021, a new activation screen will be available when iPhone and iPad devices are activated in Russia. This installation screen will feature local applications approved by the Russian government.
For now, it is not known which native apps will be available to users from April 1. However, journalist Vedomosti says these applications will include software such as Yandex, Mail.ru, Kaspersky Lab, as well as messaging, navigation and the Mir Pay payment system.
At the same time, the report notes that Apple’s Decision on Russia is a precedent for other countries. In this part, other countries are expected to sign a similar resolution, such as the Russian government, in the coming period, making local practices mandatory.
