The United States has called for a ceasefire as soon as possible by the warring parties in Afghanistan, a call that has also received support from Russia, China and Pakistan.
The time is getting closer for the U.S. to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan for 20 years. As that date approached, the United States for the first time sent a senior representative to peace talks organized by Russia.
The Moscow talks were expected to revive talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
“At this milestone, we, the four countries, call on the parties to continue negotiations and end more than 40 years of war with a peace agreement,” the four countries said in a joint statement after yesterday’s talks.
