Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the date of early elections.
Pashinian announced that early elections will be held on June 20th.
Romanos Petrosyan, a member of the ‘My Name Is My Name Party’ led by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, said the decision to hold early parliamentary elections would be announced.
“We are preparing for early elections. I think the decision and date of the early elections will be announced today or tomorrow.”
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has faced calls to resign since last November, when he agreed to a Russian-brokered ceasefire that halted six weeks of fighting between Armenian and Azeri forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
On February 25th, Chief of Staff Gasparyan and senior commanders signed a statement calling on Prime Minister Pashinian to resign and issued a memorandum to Pashinian.
Pashinian immediately announced that he had dismissed Chief of Staff Gasparyan.
President Sarkisian, who is pro-opposition, did not sign the decree to remove Gasparyan.
Pashinian called the calls of military commanders to resign against him an “attempted coup.”
