Marvel Announces MCU Actress to Play First Hearing Impaired Hero
Marvel announces the first actress to play the first hearing-impaired hero in the Cinematic Universe. Lauren Ridloff will play Makkari in The Eternals.
During the Comic-Con event, Marvel announced that Lauren Ridloff would play Makkari, the first hearing-impaired hero in the cinematic universe. According to Marvel’s website, The Eternals are divine beings imprisoned in war with the Celestials as old as the millennia. Makkari is one of them and his powers are physiology, superhuman forces, speed and great reflexes. Makkari also designs extremely fast transport vehicles.
Lauren Ridloff will star in Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Don Lee and Lia McHugh. In this context, it would not be wrong to use the “All-Star” approach for the cast of this film.
The film will also be directed by an Asian woman for the first time. Chinese director Chloe Zhao will sit in the director’s chair.
Lauren Ridloff had previously starred in Season 9 of The Walking Dead. He played Connie, another deaf character. The reason he was chosen to play such roles is because he is innate hearing impaired.
Makkari, a white male in comics. That’s why Marvel’s decision is a very brave one.
