Police responded to a report of a knife attack and fired four shots at 16-year-old Bryant when he arrived at the scene, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Local media reported that Bryant, who was seriously injured in the incident, died during his treatment at a hospital.
The Columbus Department of Public Safety held a press conference regarding the shooting death of 16-year-old Makiyah Bryant. The footage shows a scuffle between several people, with police shooting at Bryant.

Commenting on the incident on social media, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said, “A young woman tragically lost her life this afternoon. We don’t know all the details. The police have body camera footage. We are working to clarify the incident as soon as possible. The bureau of investigation, like all shootings, is conducting an independent investigation at the scene. We’ll share the information we have as soon as it’s available. I ask citizens to remain calm and allow the bureau to collect the data.”
