An inmate has been shot dead after taking a guard hostage while protesting poor conditions on the ward at the US Oklahoma Penitentiary.
There were lively moments at the prison in the US state of Oklahoma. An inmate took prison staff hostage Saturday night in protest of poor conditions in the oklahoma penitentiary where 37 inmates were staying. The inmate said they had not been able to shower for weeks because there was no water in the ward. Demanding that the prison administration correct the poor conditions on the ward, the inmate was shot dead after the prison worker brought a cutting tool to his neck.
The prisoner has died
The prisoner was reportedly killed when police opened fire. A group of nearby inmates gathered at the gates of the Oklahoma Penitentiary after the inmate’s killing to protest the way police responded. The prison worker, who was taken hostage by the inmate, was taken to hospital. Meanwhile, Oklahoma Prison Director Greg Williams told local media that the incident occurred on the 10th floor of the prison, where the inmate took the prison employee hostage and confiscated the keys to the ward.
