U.S. officials told local media that U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration has been trying to contact Kim Jong-un’s administration through several channels since February to prevent tensions from escalating.
Despite several attempts by the Biden administration, North Korea has reportedly ignored it.
Relations between the U.S. and North Korea have at times been seated by North Korea’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. Former US President Donald Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore in 2018, and there were later correspondence between the two leaders.
North Korea’s nuclear programs, however, continued.
