At least 44 people have been killed and 103 injured in a stampede at Lag BaOmer Day celebrations in northern Israel.
During the celebrations on Mount Meron, a stampede occurred after midnight, the cause of which is unknown.
Six ambulance helicopters were sent to the area and several paramedics were dispatched after reports of serious injuries.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a message posted on Twitter that the incident was a “catastrophe” and that they were praying for the recovery of the wounded.
Israeli media reports said 44 people were killed, 103 injured and 44 were in a serious condition.
In addition, it was stated that a field hospital was established in the region and there was a problem with the telephone networks due to the density.
It is not yet known why the stampede occurred.
According to local news sources, the stampede began with an escape that began after a platform used to celebrate collapsed.
Health officials said the alleged platform collapse was unclear.
