While kindergartens and primary schools were suspended due to air pollution in Iran’s capital, Tehran, all sports activities were banned for 3 days.

Tehran, the Iranian capital that is struggling with the problem of air pollution, ranks 12th in the world in air pollution. In Tehran, air pollution, which is effective every year in winter, negatively affects life.

Tehran’s physical structure, which is not suitable for air circulation, the dense population and vehicle use in the city, and the poor quality fuels used in vehicles and factories are seen as the main causes of air pollution in Tehran.

Tehran Air Quality Measurement Company said in a statement that air pollution in the capital today is 124 micrograms/cubic meter, which is unhealthy and dangerous for all age groups.

While the authorities asked the people of Tehran not to go out unless they have to, they warned that particles smaller than 2.5 microns in the air damage the lungs, and therefore polluted air can cause bad consequences, especially for the elderly, children, and lung patients.

In line with the decision of the Tehran Air Pollution Emergency Committee, all sports activities were banned for 3 days, while kindergartens and primary schools were closed in the capital.

While the use of bicycles is encouraged as a solution to the air pollution problem that negatively affects life in the winter every year, programs such as banning old vehicles from traffic, applying for single and double license plates in traffic, and taking factories out of the city are implemented by the state.
