One person has died and 56 have been treated in hospital for a “mysterious illness” in the northern Nigerian state of Kano.
According to national media reports, one person has died and 56 have been hospitalized due to the as-yet undiagnosed disease in six villages in the Rogo region of the province.
Officials said some of those brought to the hospital showed vomiting and blood in the urine as investigations continued into the cause of death of the deceased.
Meanwhile, an official in charge of the epidemic at the Ministry of Health in Kano said the ministry had received a report on the outbreak, but only four people had been affected and treated.
More than 1,000 people died in Nigeria last year due to the “mysterious disease.”
