WHO IS PIERRE CARDIN?

Pierre Cardin was born on July 2, 1922 in San Biagio di Callalta, Italy. When he was 12 years old, his family moved to France. At the age of 14, he began his apprenticeship with a famous tailor in the city of Saint-Etienne and studied architecture in Paris. He was especially known for his avant-garde and futuristic fashion designs he made under the name of ‘Space Age’ in the 1960s. In 1939 he started designing women’s clothing in Vichy, France.

He volunteered for the Red Cross during World War II. He settled in Paris in 1944 and started working at the fashion house in La Paix in 1944. There he acquired the professional knowledge and experience that would enable him to become the chief tailor of Dior, arguably the largest French fashion house of the time.

After 1945, he started working with the world’s most famous designers. Working with Madame Paquin, Jean Cocteau, Christian Bernard and Christian Dior between 1947 and 1950 respectively, Pierre Cardin established his own salon in 1950. He opened the Maison De Couture in 1953. In 1954, she opened her store named “EVE”, that is “Havva”, where the first women’s collections were exhibited. In 1957, he opened his first men’s store named “ADAM”, namely “Adam”. After his trip to Japan in 1959, he revealed his first ready-to-wear collection. In 1963, the tight, body-hugging garment played a role in the spread of tights to the world. It launched its first children’s collection in 1966 and became one of the best selling brands in the USA.

ORGANIZED DESIGNS FOR FAMOUS NAMES

In 1971, Cardin launched the “Espace Cardin” store in Paris, and presented original designs to many artist groups such as the Beatles group, sculptors and actors. CREATED THE MOST ACCEPTED COMMERCIAL BRAND

During the 1980s and 1990s, Pierre Cardin boutiques were opened in Sofia, Paris, London, Beijing and Budapest.
