A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck at 6:09 p.m. local time in Miyagi province, northeastern Japan. A tsunami warning has been issued in the country.

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Miyagi province in northeastern Japan.

An earthquake was recorded off Miyagi at a depth of 60 kilometers at 6:09 p.m. local time, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The JMA has issued a “tsunami” warning for the coast of Miyagi following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake.

The quake was also felt across the northeast in Iwate, Akita, Gunma, Fukushima, Saitama, Aomori and the capital Tokyo.
