A horrific incident has occurred in Boulder, Colorado, USA. Ten people, one of them police, were killed in a shooting at a supermarket.
The United States, the country hardest hit by the Corona virus, was also rocked by the horror of the shooting. Gunfire erupted from a supermarket called King Soopers at around 2:30 p.m. local time in Boulder, Colorado.
Police quickly arrived at the scene after a tip-off from locals. A gunman was found to have entered the market and opened fire, while security forces called in reinforcements.
After a long struggle, the gunman was wounded. Local news outlets reported the moment a naked man was pulled from the store covered in blood. As police entered the store, they encountered the blood-freezing scene. The assailant, who has not been named, was said to have slaughtered 10 people, including one policeman.
The identity of one of the dead, police officer Eric Talley, has been released while the motive for the attacker’s incident is being investigated. Talley, 51, had been with Boulder police for 11 years and was one of the first officers to arrive at the market at the time of the incident.
Sarah Moonshadow, who was at the grocery store with her son at the time of the attack, told the Denver Post about her experiences.
They went to the market to buy strawberries, Moonshadow said, adding that they first heard two shots fired. I said to my son, “Don’t look and start running.” We managed to escape to the parking lot. There was someone lying on the floor. I headed towards him, but my son stopped me. “We can’t help him,” he said, “and we walked away.”
“What happened is a tragic nightmare for Boulder,” Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty said after the attack. We are receiving support from local and federal authorities regarding the incident.”
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said U.S. President Joe Biden had been briefed on the attack.
