Rockstar Games: Grand Theft Auto 6 or Bully 2; Which Title should the Studio Work on First?

Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 finally released the fall of last year to universal acclaim from the critics and users alike. The nine years wait was completely worth it and as fans spend countless hours exploring the untamed wild west , they are also keeping an eye out for whatever Rockstar Games are working on next.

Rockstar Games are undoubtedly one of the most talented game developing studios around and almost all of their titles are near perfect video games which fans adore and hence the expectations for their next game is, even more, seeing as Red Dead Redemption 2 has set the bar even higher now.

Two games, which Rockstar Games might be working on next are indeed the sequel to 2013’s action-adventure open-world title Grand Theft Auto V, as well as a game which not many of you may be familiar with, that is Bully, an open world action game released back in 2006.

#1. Grand Theft Auto VI

Grand Theft Auto V went on to become the fastest selling entertainment product of all time. It broke records not just in sales, but also in terms of visuals fedility as well as the level of immersion an open world game can provide. For the first time in series history, it threw three different protogainsts at us, each with its own distinct personalities and flavor, hence the reason why the game’s 30 hours single player campaign never felt like a drag unlike other Rockstar games.

Now, it has been 6 years since GTA V released and I would be lying if I say I would not like to see a 6th installment of the game as early as possible. Infact, millions of people across the globe feels the same. But do we really need one now?

You see, I’m someone who played a lot of GTA online and infact still does at times. Now this is completely a personal opinion, but for me GTA 5 hasn’t grown old at all. What I mean is that I’m not over it yet. GTA online keeps bringing me back to the world of Los Santos and obviously this is what Rockstar Games wanted as well right? Keep players coming back to this game for the years to come.

Now, this is exactly the reason why GTA 5 continues to sell well even now. Infact even last month it ranked at number 9 as the best selling game of the month (UK Charts). Now this number indicates that GTA 5 is selling well and people are still playing it. This means that the game is still fresh and releasing another GTA game so early would not only hinder GTA 5’s ongoing success but also create a relatively less hype for the game’s next entry.

The next Grand Theft Auto has a nearly-impossible to surpass expectations to beat. People are going to compare. And if doesn’t surpass GTA 5’s record of being the fastest selling entertainment of all time than well, wouldn’t it be kind of a disappointment for the developers as well as the game’s publishers?

#2. Bully 2

Now Bully 2 is a completely different story. The original Bully was an open world action-adventure game which let the player control a high school kid -Jimmy Hopkins. The game’s premise was a fictional town called Bullworth Academy, which consisted of main areas which were Bullworth Academy, Old Bullworth Vale, Bullworth Town, New Coventry, and the Blue Skies Industrial Area.

In Bully, players would study in the Bullworth Academy, rise up the ranks, make friends, go on a date, fight other bullies and much more. In other words, Bully added something entirely different to the videogame industry and people fell in love with it. As of 2008, the game had sold 1.5 million copies according to Take-Two Interactive.

Fast forward to 2019, about 13 years later, we haven’t got a single game like Bully and fans are desperate for more. Sure Bully doesn’t have a huge fan base like Grand Theft Auto games. But would it sell any less than let’s say- Red Dead Redemption 2? Probably not. More importantly, it will be something entirely fresh for the open world genre of games we have known to play in recent years. I’m certain that Bully 2 will surpass the scope of the original game in unprecedent ways. What’s more is that it will give Grand Theft Auto 6 to breathe and take shape little by little. Rockstar Games shouldn’t rush when it comes to GTA.

As of now, this console generation is coming to an end and if GTA 6 manages to drop by till next year then it would be vastly similar to RDR 2- mechanically and visually speaking. Know what I’m trying to say?

I would love to hear your opionion on this? Is it time we get another Grand Theft Auto game or should Rockstar take their time with that game while providing us with something completely different for the time being, something like Bully 2?
