Red Dead Redemption Remaster Leaked

A new potential Amazon leak suggests that a Red Dead Redemption remaster is in the works from Rockstar Games, and could arrive as early as next month if the listing is accurate. Red Dead Redemption is the first entry into the franchise and a beloved game in its own right, even after Red Dead Redemption 2 has taken most of the spotlight thanks to its own graphical prowess and deft storytelling.

Rumors about Rockstar potentially working on a Red Dead Redemption remaster are nothing new, of course, as fans have suggested the project would make a lot of sense given the long period of time that elapsed between the original RDR and Red Dead Redemption 2 – a period of eight years, meaning plenty of fans may have missed the first instalment. While Red Dead Redemption 2 is a solid standalone title, there’s a lot present within the game that’s a deliberate nod to fans of the series’ story as a whole, but playing Red Dead Redemption in 2020 exposes the original game’s flaws in a much more glaring fashion than revisiting it even five years ago used to.

A fan on Reddit posted a link to a Google search for Red Dead Redemption remaster that turns up a result, suggesting that the title would release on December 10, 2020 for $49.99. There are a few reasons December 10 would make sense – The Game Awards 2020 is hosted that same day, which would make a stealth reveal/announcement more likely for the show, and it’s just in time for a holiday season that sees Rockstar without anything truly major to take advantage of current-gen console hype.

That being said, however, there’s also reason for skepticism. This type of finding has happened before, and nothing has come of it then. December 10, while also alluring because of The Game Awards, is also the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 – a game that developers and publishers have been actively shuffling their own release dates around to avoid. There may well be room enough for both a Red Dead Redemption remaster and Cyberpunk 2077 to thrive in the same launch window, but it would likely make more sense to space them out as far as Rockstar is concerned.

With all that said, it’s best to take the rumor of a Red Dead Redemption remaster as just that, and treat any official announcement as a pleasant surprise rather than something to be expected. Rockstar has bigger concerns – GTA 5 comes to current-gen next year, while Grand Theft Auto 6 has been discussed to death with no actual information revealed yet. Still, it’s hard not to get hopes up just a little bit for a better-looking and more refined Red Dead Redemption remaster to help players return to a game that has a lot to offer veterans and newcomers alike.
