Gearbox Entertainment, developer of Borderlands 3, joins Embracer Group
Gearbox Entertainment was bought by embracer group, which has more than 5,000 employees worldwide and is based in Sweden, VentureBeat reported. In this way, the company, which incorporates Gearbox’s studios in Texas and Quebec, will also increase its staff.
Following the acquisition, the studio will be able to move more comfortably for its plans going forward. Also taking into account the knowledge that Borderlands 3 passed 8 million copies early last year, it seems that the acquisition is a logical estimate.
Speaking about the acquisition, Gearbox co-founder Randy Pitchford said, “The feeling at Gearbox is that we are just getting started and that this process is not only an incentive for the capabilities of our employee-owned company, but also a push for the exciting future we are planning.” Pitchford, who has served as president since the company was founded in 1999, will continue in his post without any changes.
Embracer Group, which made the acquisition, continues to grow in line with its projects. In the last few years, the company has bought firms such as THQ Nordic, Koch Media, Deep Silver, Coffe Stain AB, Amplifier Game Invest. Also according to VentureBeat’s report, the company now has 57 internal game development studios in more than 40 countries.
