Pax event organizers ReedPop and Penny Arcade announced the cancellation of PAX East 2021.
“Due to ongoing public health reasons, ReedPop and Penny Arcade will not be doing PAX East this year,” organizers said in a statement.
Organisers announced the event’s cancellation, saying:
“To host a live PAX event, we need to make sure the event will be safe for everyone involved.”
Instead of the Pax East event, there will be an online PAX Online event on July 15-18, with an independent game showcase. ReedPop said more details about the event would be announced soon.
Both ReedPop and Penny Arcade said they were “optimistic” that it would be safe enough to host PAX West and PAX Unplugged as live events on September 3-6 and December 10-12, respectively. So the cancellation of these events is out of the question, at least for now.
Due to the continued quarantine measures and vaccination planning, it is very likely that many game events will be cancelled or moved to the digital space in 2021. In line with these reports, ESA announced that it will hold E3 2021 as a digital event this year.
