Tech giant Microsoft is planning to buy Konami and Sega to revive declining Xbox game console sales in Japan.
Microsoft’s plans to buy Sega have been talked about for a very long time, and the latest leaked information is that this acquisition will happen. The company also has the idea of incorporating another Japanese giant, Konami.
Last week’s main story was perhaps zenimax media and bethesda’s successful addition to the Xbox team. Now, the next possible acquisition of Microsoft is on the agenda. We’re talking about the takeover of legendary Japanese companies like Konami and Sega.
Regarding Sega, it can be said that the company has been associated with Microsoft for decades, and rumors of a possible takeover have been circulating for a long time. Konami is also a valuable asset to Microsoft with popular games such as Silent Hill and Metal Gear.
Microsoft’s weak position in the Japanese market is cited as a justification for the company’s possible plans. It is a fact that Microsoft has traditionally lost to Sony in Japan. For example, in the last week of February, only 10 Xbox One consoles were sold in Japan, as well as 1,508 Xbox Series X and S consoles. For comparison, in the same week, the Japanese purchased 33,792 Sony PS5 and 78,134 Nintendo Switch consoles.
Of course, Konami and Sega will not be able to make Xbox the first console brand in Japan, but it is an indisputable fact that they will help strengthen Microsoft’s position.
