Market research firm Nielsen announced that Cyberpunk 2077 set a historic record in December, selling a total of 10.2 million copies from digital platforms.
Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most problematic debuts in the gaming industry, managed to capture very impressive sales figures despite everything that happened. Nielsen/SuperData, the research firm that published reports on the past year, announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has had the largest digital opening in the history of the game.
According to figures shared by SuperData, Cyberpunk 2077 managed to sell 10.2 million copies through digital platforms in December 2020. SuperData said 80% of total digital sales come from the PC platform only. Finally, due to the removal of Cyberpunk 2077 from the PS Store, digital sales figures have decreased significantly.
CD Project RED announced in an official statement on December 22nd that Cyberpunk 2077 sold a total of 13 million copies. In another statement on the day of its release, the company said the game had received 8 million pre-orders, of which 4.72 million were pc-owned.
Cyberpunk opened with records during the 2077 release period, taking advantage of great excitement and anticipation. However, due to the scandals, the speed of the game’s sales is estimated to have slowed considerably in a short time. Currently, some retailers, such as Amazon and Best Buy in the US, have started selling Cyberpunk 2077 for $30. Of course, it’s not a good sign that the price of such a big game has dropped by half in just one month.
