CS:GO players who cheated received heavy penalties

The ESIC (ESports Integritiy Commission) has banned 35 professional CS:GO players from competitions for betting on matches. The players were given bans ranging from one to five years.

Founded in 2016 to prevent manipulation of Esports matches and to prevent any cheating, ESIC has signed an important investigation. The agency said its investigation into the events of the ESEA league in Australia in October found that 35 CS:GO players received sentences ranging from one to 5 years, and both players had their sentences extended.

Regarding the penalties issued, the commission said: “Over the past few years, ESIC has been investigating breaches of betting behaviour and suspected match manipulation on a global scale. Although this issue is not unique to ESEA events, the scope of the investigation is CS:GO events held in Australia.” To be consistent with the sentences imposed, the commission had prepared some kind of sanctions matrix. Accordingly, betting on matches is punishable by 12 months, betting on their own matches is 24 months, betting on more than ten matches is 36 months, betting against their own team is 48 months, and betting on more than ten matches against their own team is punishable by 60 months.
