Call of Duty: Mobile, a mobile version of the CoD series, has built a huge fan base, although the series has not achieved the success of other games. Activision also announced how many times the game has been downloaded since its release.
The game has surpassed 500 million downloads on mobile platforms since its release in October 2019, Activision said. Rob Kostich, the company’s president, also said the game had earned its developer more than $1 billion through mobile spending.
The game took a year to surpass 250 million downloads and generate $500 million in revenue, while the latest data released by Activision is the result of just six months of savings.
The Call of Duty series, which has appeared in 19 different games since its debut in 2003, has worked with many studios to date. The series kept pace with the times and carried its success to mobile. So much so that China’s TiMi Games, the developer of CallofDuty: Mobile, made a total of $10 billion in earnings in 2020.
Meanwhile, Sledgehammer Games, the developer of the next Call of Duty game, has announced the opening of an additional studio in Toronto, Canada, to help with its Foster City, California, Melbourne offices.
