Speaking during its latest earnings call, Activision has confirmed that the new Call of Duty game will be revealed before the current fiscal quarter wraps. In other words, we’ll get an announcement by June 30 at the very latest.
Rumours have been swirling for months now that this year’s entry in the series will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and last month a bunch of American football players allegedly got to play the game.
‘We need to do even more to maintain the breadth of our Call of Duty player base beyond the launch quarters,’ commented Activision’s Coddy Johnson. ‘The Call of Duty team is hard at work on that for this fall’s big content release, excitement for which is incredibly high around the organisation. We expect that both the launch and the post launch will bring game-changing experiences to our fans.’
It’s taking a bit longer to announce a new Call of Duty this year. Typically, leaks tend to happen earlier in the year, before Activision lifts the wraps off the game around May, as was the case with Black Ops 4. Given that they have until June 30 to reveal the game, there’s no guarantee we’ll get a look at the new Call of Duty before E3.
In related news, Activision has confirmed that the first-person shooter franchise has now sold 300 million units worldwide since its inception in 2003.
