Randy Pitchford, CEO of game developer Gearbox, responded to rumors that the studio was outsourcing a new Borderlands project. Pitchford clarified whether the project was relevant to the future of the Borderlands series.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said in a post on his official Twitter account that the allegation that they were conducting a study on Borderlands also did not reflect reality.
Randy Pitchford said in a post:
“I have heard rumors that Gearbox is developing a game with another company. These rumors are not true. The Gearbox is the chief developer of borderlands’ future games. We’re not planning on developing this kind of game right now. But right now we’re working on something big that will surprise you.”
The CEO also used an interesting phrase as if you are working on the big one if you want to join the universe of the game. While it is not known what the “big” surprise Pitchford meant, it is clear that it is premature to hope for the new game, given that there is a seven-year gap between Borderlands 2 and 3. Because we met the last game of the series in 2019. So it looks like there’s still a little more time for the new game.
Gearbox has been very busy with borderlands 3-related content in the past few months. The game came to PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S in November 2020. Last April, the Director’s Cut version was released on all available platforms.
While we don’t know what Gearbox has to think about the fate of borderlands, it’s worth noting that the developer studio will be featured at E3 2021 next month. Gearbox announced earlier this week that it would be participating in showcase events and will collaborate with Sega, Bandai Namco, and several other companies. Another major gaming company, Konami, announced its withdrawal from the event a week ago.
