There’s bad news from the Lord of the Rings video game, developed by Amazon and scheduled for release soon. The game was shelved due to a dispute over the contract between Amazon and Tencent megacorps.
The cancellation of the Lord of the Rings project is based on leakage
Amazon Game Studios’ Lord of the Rings MMO gaming project, developed by Tencent in con congenital with Leyou Technologies, has reportedly been halted due to a contract dispute between the two companies. The controversial development was the leaking of detailed licensing documents about the MMO game online at the end of last year.
According to GamesRadar, the leaked information included drafts containing changes to the game, detailed planning, and game information, while the project should be completed by January 11, 2021.
An Amazon spokesperson told Bloomberg that Tencent failed to meet sufficient requirements to continue with its LOTR title following its acquisition of Leyou. The spokesman added: “We love the name and world of Lord of the Rings. We are very disappointed that we will not be able to offer this game to our customers.”
In recent years, many Lord of the Rings licenses has appeared, including Monolith Production’s Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Set in JRR Tolkien’s fantasy world, the next game will be The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which is expected to be released later this year and is out of the hands of Daedalic Entertainment.
